Cousins, Rides and Potato Chips

We continued our 18 day vacation by visiting with cousins.  Here is Kerri and Olivia at dinner at our favorite spot - The Green Turtle.

Livvie and Emily coloring a tote bag.

Garrett and Kenny building Legos.

This year Joe drove up to meet us.  We were able to get away without the kids and travel to Joe's favorite spot - Gettysburg.  It was a hot day but our battlefield guide kept us distracted with all the facts and figures of the battle.  This is the best way to do Gettysburg because the guide DRIVES YOUR CAR and you get to actually see everything and imagine it while he's talking.

We stayed at the Dobbin House Bed & Breakfast and we're impressed with the underground tavern.  It was great for beating the 100 degree temps.  Unfortunately since it was lit by candlelight, none of the pictures turned out.

The next morning we were greeted by a wonderful breakfast spread.

After our quiet breakfast, we were off to meet the kids and Grandpop & Nana in Dutch Wonderland.

This year it was HOT - really hot.

We spent many hours in the water park side of Dutch Wonderland.

Olivia tried to coax Grandpop towards all of the action to get wet.

Third year here and they are pros - they ran around and played like they owned the place!

It was a little difficult to snap pictures while trying to avoid all the sprayers, water guns, water dumping buckets and all the wet children running around.

This ride was the first and funniest.  They are getting a little big for it and know what to expect.  There is a sharp turn that whips them around.  They let out loud screams each time they were whipped around.  Hopefully they didn't scare the little ones to much :)

They always insist on facing each other to get the best shot.

This ride was in the direct sun - so they had it all to themselves and rode 3 times in a row!

Dutch Wonderland added a new indoor and air-conditioned restaurant this year.  We gladly took a break from the heat and re-fueled for the rest of the afternoon.  Merlin entertained the kids while we waited for our food.

Ahhh - sitting for a nice train ride.

The best ride - the log flume - Olivia is in there between Grandpop and Joe.

I caught a little bit of the bumper car action.  Joe let Garrett drive and they laughed and laughed the entire time.  Grandpop got stuck in a few pile-ups of his own.

After 8+ hours in the park, we called it quits for the day and headed to the hotel to change and head out for dinner.  I'm not sure who was more tired - the adults or the kids.

Since we spent the day at the kids favorite place, it was nice to go to Grandpop's favorite place - the Utz potato chip factory.  They don't allow any photos inside the tour area, but I can tell you that we saw the potato chip process from start to finish.  We literally saw the semi trucks full of potatoes backed in to the factory, conveyor belts pulling them off and into be washed and peeled, cooked and salted, bagged and boxed.  Then we saw this HUGE warehouse of potato chip boxes and were surprised to hear that this room turned over it's inventory every 24 hours!  Now that's some fresh chips!!  And the smell was delicious - so naturally we headed to the Utz outlet store and stocked up on chips and pretzels. Yummm!!

A perfect end to a great trip!  We will definitely be trying to find other factory tours to take as the kids loved it!
