Week #6 - Turtles, Sand & A Birthday Celebration

This week was all about Turtles & Perseverance.  We were once again on the road this week and managed to "sneak in " a few good learning opportunities.  Since I didn't have access the library, I downloaded a reading of The Tortoise and the Hare onto my ipod for the kids to listen to.  Then we proceeded to act out the race between the two in our beach condo ~ complete with mommy playing tortoise and crawling on all fours while repeating "Slow and steady wins the race".  I'm sure the people below us were wondering what all the noise was - but the kids loved playing the "race" - although Garrett tried to be the Hare and run past the turtle . . .

It was a little chilly at the beach - so we did some indoor activities - we went to the aquarium.  I couldn't capture any turtles but we saw LOTS of sharks!

Garrett's favorite thing was the moving sidewalk that took you through the shark tanks.

We also found a children's museum on the Grand Strand that had everything from moonsand, art centers, panning for gold, mail delivery, dentist chair (complete with x-rays) and the giant bubble maker!  Here's Olivia inside a bubble.

The pizza station had them learning about fractions.

They really loved this wall full of tubes that were secured by Velcro so you could move them around and drop balls in them.  If I had the space, I would make one of these at our house!

We did manage to make it out on the beach a few days - complete with pants & jackets.  We came back with TONS of shells and lots of good memories!

My mom's birthday was October 7th while we were at the beach.  This is Garrett giving her 60 kisses at the restaurant - which quickly became a game between the two of them!  The kids took Nana's order the night before for "breakfast in bed" and successfully accomplished Nana's wish (and ours) of staying in bed until 8:30!!!

All in all another great fall beach trip with some learning mixed in - that's the idea right?
