Week #4 - The Leaf

This week was all about leaves and growing in Jesus.  When I announced the letter and theme for the week, the first thing Garrett said was, "Where are we going to get leaves?" - good question.  For anyone who has seen our yard, we have almost an acre of land with one "token" tree that the builder plants in the front.  We have grass in the back after a long fight with the drought her in NC, but no trees yet.  So I responded with "We'll have to go on an adventure hunt to find some leaves!" - now they got excited!

Tuesday mornings while I'm in bible study, Garrett & Olivia are in classes at the church.  I instructed Garrett (and asked his teacher) to collect a few leaves while they were out playing.  Garrett decided he wanted to bring home this walnut instead.  Here's Garrett & daddy cracking open the nut that night.

That same afternoon we took a picnic lunch to a local park and gathered more than enough leaves.  We identified them - and let me tell you I think I learned just as much as they did!
We also did some leaf rubbing.  This was the highlight of Garrett's day.  He squealed like a little baby as we rubbed the crayon onto the paper and a leaf appeared.  It was really cute.  Olivia was not so impressed, but made one for herself.
Olivia was working really hard one day at the chalkboard.  I thought she was just "making snow" as she calls it ~ but to my surprise when she called me into the kitchen and said, "TA DA" I found this:She had written a TON of uppercase & lowercase "Ls" :) that's my girl!

  1. What a fun unit! If you ever need leaves, come on over...I think we are going to be covered soon!
That is TOO precious about Garrett & the leaf rubbing (we are going to have to do that!) and SO sweet Miss Olivia & her "Ll"s!
    Looks like another great week!

  2. What a great job Olivia did on her L's! My kids love leaf rubbing too, such an easy craft, gotta start them small:) Hope that leaf book is coming in handy, I think we may go for a nature walk soon since it has cooled off.
