Well I've returned from my 'days in the sun' on my 5 day cruise with my mom & two of her best friends. We celebrated mom's 60th birthday in style ~ and what better way to do it than on a cruise! We enjoyed many of God's creations ~ land, beautiful oceans, bright stars & the moon over the water & most of all each other's company and fellowship. It will be a trip we'll all remember and treasure for years!
Joe's parents came down from Indiana to help out with the kids so that Joe didn't have to take that much time off. They had a great time with Grammy & Poppy and barely noticed I was gone. I was greeted with "We Missed You" signs taped up on the fireplace for my return.

Ok - so enough about my FABULOUS cruise - back to school time here.
This week we're learning about The Sun; The Letter S; and that Jesus is the Light of the World. We've got a few things to make to compliment the unit from MFW study. We made 'slimy spaghetti suns', a Sundial, sun tea and Sun shaped sugar cookies.
Olivia was less than thrilled to handle the spaghetti!!! - such a drama queen!!
Garrett LOVES to help cook things ~ and of course he chose 'blue' to color the homemade clay with. It was really simple to make ~ 1 1/4 cups flour; 1/4 cup salt; 2 Tbsp cream of tartar; 1 cup water; 1 Tbsp oil and a few drops of food coloring. Cook over med heat, stirring constantly, until it stiffens & forms a ball. Remove and knead on floured surface.
Since Garrett is my early bird, and Olivia stays in bed sometimes 'til 9 - we've been doing most of the handwriting practice & math before she gets up. We made our badges with the bible lesson for the week ~ Jesus is the Light of the World. When I explained that we should go out and tell people this ~ you know what my 'never met a stranger' boy said, "Ok - let's go - let's go now - I want to tell everyone about Jesus!" - ok melt my heart and let's get some clothes on before we head out. So we took a walk to the playground - found 2 people to tell, then it was off to Harris Teeter & Target - 5 more people told there - I truly hope he keeps his evangelistic heart up for the rest of his life!
Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!
~Rebecca

Keep up that heart for Jesus, Garrett! So precious! Looks like you are right back into the swing of things & doing all kinds of fun activities! SO glad you had an awesome time on your cruise! Welcome home!
ReplyDeleteYay! You went on the cruise with your Mom! It sounds like it was so much fun. I love the miss you notes! So cute. Shadows are so fun to play with. What a great study this week on the sun. A fun little book about shadows is 'Nothing Sticks Like a Shadow'. I think we might check it out again soon over here!
