Week #3 - The Moon

This week we learned all about the Moon, the letter "M" and how we are like the moon (hold on for that explanation).  I found a great resource for the letter m - what else m&ms.  There are great ideas here on how to use m&ms for counting, sorting, patterns etc.  - and of course we got to eat some along the way.

We also had practice cutting out words that begin with "M"

Olivia really enjoys using the Cuisenaire Rods to make pictures.  If you've never heard of them click here for more info.
Ok - so you're wondering how we're like the moon?  The MFW book explained it well ~ "We are like the moon, and Jesus is like the sun.  If we know Jesus, his light shines on us and we become a light too . . ." - a "reflection of Jesus" just like the moon has no light without the sun - we have no light without "The Son".

We also had a playdate at Noah's Art - not much about the moon there - but of course during storytime Garrett raised his hand to say, "I have a story" - not what the owner was thinking, but he was nice and let Garrett tell a story before he read his book to the other kids.

And if that wasn't enough painting - we also collected some rocks and painted them to make "moon rocks"  Garrett was a little disappointed as he thought I said "glow in the dark" paint - when actually it was just flourescent paint ~

I also found great pictures of the phases of the moon.  Since Garrett & Olivia are in bed WAY before dark, we haven't been able to see the moon much ~ but these pictures from the US Naval Observatory worked great to show them.  Click here to see them for yourself.

Looking forward to a weekend with friends and Garrett's first soccer game (he actually asked if he was going to be on TV so everyone could see him!)

Have great weekend!

  1. Looks like a great week! The rods remind me of Montessori manipulatives. You should check out my friend Lori's website Montessori for Everyone or her fb page. She has a lot of wonderful resources. You guys have a great weekend, too!
