Or should I say - Out with the baby teeth, In with the Adult teeth? That's right. We had a nice time of no changing diapers or baby feedings and now we're on to glasses and loosing teeth.
Last week, January 26, 2012, Garrett lost his first baby tooth.
Rewind a week ~ Garrett was quick to point out that he had his first wobly tooth. He was excited (because a lot of his friends at school had lost teeth), but also scared because of the BLOOD. Our boy does not like blood, or pain or discomfort of any kind. Who can blame him right? He wouldn't let us get close to it to touch it. He just kept pushing it forward with his tongue.
One night, I finally got him to show us the loose tooth up close - only to see TWO adult teeth coming up BEHIND these baby teeth. Ummm - that doesn't look right. Quick search on google confirms it's called Shark Teeth - nice. I was still a little leary about this, so I called the dentist. Their response was, "It's not common, but it's normal." - Huh? Give it a week or until the adult teeth are halfway up before you bring him in to have them pulled. Did you say PULLED??? remember my son who doesn't like pain and can I tell you when he has his teeth cleaned he does it while sitting up :).
So what's a mom to do? what I always do - tell it to him straight. So I calmly explained that if those baby teeth didn't come out that we'd have to go to the dentist to get them out. You know what followed right? Tears BIG crocodile tears. I quickly finished my counseling session to tell Garrett the great news was - you have the solution - GET THE TEETH TO FALL OUT THEMSELVES and we won't have to go to the dentist. We prayed for no pain, no discomfort and for them to come out themselves. And Garrett sat down in front of the TV with a wet washcloth and wiggled on that tooth . . . for 4 more days . . .
Then finally, on the morning of January 26, 2012, he woke up for school, came to our room and his tooth was gone!! Panic set in as he thought the tooth was lost - but I found it right on his pillow!! Yippee!! No blood, no pain and in his sleep - thank you Jesus!! What a happy boy Garrett was. If you were in a mile radius from us, you knew that he lost his tooth - he was telling EVERYONE - cashiers at the grocery store, teachers, neighbors you name it he was telling his great story!
Now you know what this means? The tooth fairy test. We've told Garrett that the tooth fairy is not real in our home, but he was talking about "testing" this - but when it came down to it - He brought the little ziploc baggie with his tooth downstairs and asked us to keep it in a safe spot so the tooth fairy wouldn't take it - love this little guy :) He wants to do an experiment with it to see if it will dissolve in soda - like the dentist told him it would.
So here is the picture - look if you must - but I had to include so we'll have it forever.
Update: Just 5 days later and he has lost the 2nd bottom baby tooth - Happy Dance - no teeth pulling in this house!
